I’ve got a crappy one for ya–Texty “beta”

Texty - a pointless, web 2.0 super light distributed CMS

TechCrunch says “Texty is a dead simple but useful new internet service that you can use to quickly create and edit content on a web page with zero HTML or programming skills.”

I say that it’s a waste of time. What’s the point?

The way it works is that you write your snippets at texty and then get an embed URL to paste in other webpages. Where ever that embed code is placed, the text (or content) snippet will show up.

Here’s why it’s pointless. If someone has an HTML page, they can just write the content directly in the page a hell of a lot easier than going to texty and then pasting embed code. If they have a blog, they already have WYSIWYG editing. Ditto on social networks.

Fichey–why would people want to look at static screenshots of websites?

Posted by Me on July 28th, 2007

Fichey - making the web static…

Fichey takes screenshots of popular websites and lets users browse the screenshots. While the service is pointless, the eye candy animation of the screenshots is quite elegant.

But it’s still stupid! Who the hell wants to look at static screenshots of websites? Isn’t the whole point of the web to be dynamic?

I sure hope they don’t plan to make any money.

GarageSaleNation - Why use Craig’s List for free when you can pay $10?

Posted by Me on June 24th, 2007

garage sale nation screenshot

GarageSalesNation was created to aggregate garage sale locations & information in a centralized site. No more aimless wondering looking for deal. The only problem is that everyone  already uses Craig’s List for this. And Craig’s List allows people to post for free. That said, it is nice to be able to see garage sale locations on a google map.  Data in Craig’s List often doesn’t easily facilitate this. From what I can tell, GSN doesn’t list any items for sale or prices–just the location and hours. To me that’s an obvious opportunity for improvement. Will this catch on? I kinda doubt it–CL is already a widely used and pretty decent tool.Rating: ★★☆☆☆☆

CmyList.com - Craigslist Meets YouTube For No Reason Whatsoever!

Posted by Me on June 23rd, 2007

CmyList Screenshot

CmyList.com is yet another classifieds site. But wait! It aims to differentiate iself by using **videos**.So, instead of reading about, say an accounting job, you can instead watch a video about said job. Sigh. There is perhaps on area of Craig’s List where this functionality would be beneficial to the community. Yes, that. Ironically, that’s the one thing they don’t allow!Rating: ★★☆☆☆☆
