Multiply gets 16.6 x $1,000,000. To Catch Up?
commentary, Web 2.0 September 8th, 2007
Apparently, Multiply has been around for a long time, but the social network hasn’t really taken off. I hadn’t heard of it, but I guess that doesn’t mean too much. They just picked up $16.6MM from VantagePoint Venture Partners et al, presumably because they…well, I guess they believe they still have a chance.
Or maybe they just need some more cash to execute their strategy to target the Philippines and Indonesia. Apparently, they’re in the top 10 sites in both locations, says TechCrunch.

I’ve been using Multiply since the fall of 2004. It’s certainly not playing catch-up in terms of functionality or usability.
Multiply has the infrastructure that makes social networking work. It’s organized. It has a reply system that makes conversations possible. It’s customizable from several angles, has an array of privacy settings, and offers both vertical and horizontal services.

I think multiply is better than most social network in a lot of ways. Most social network tend to follow the footsteps of MySpace and Friendster which, in my opinion, messes up the whole profile page and in turn messes up navigation throughout the website.
Multiply makes it easy for you to work around, it has a clean interface which actually makes your profile page looks like your own website, easy to edit main page to clean up your page so it doesn’t look confusing and an incredible ‘home’ page called ‘My Multiply Page’ which shows all your new messages which can be filtered.
Multiply’s social network even goes beyond its users. The admins at multiply actually responds to questions you throw at them and accepts improvements and comments via their blog and a multiply group making them even more social than other social network sites.
In my opinion, the best part about multiply is their privacy settings where you have a lot of options on who can view your contents - thus making a website for others easy without having to hide things. Multiply does everything and thinks for everything for you.
I don’t think they are doing the catch-up. I think other sites need to catch-up with Multiply.

I’ve been using Multiply for quite some time now and I have never been happier. I even went so far as to delete some of my other accounts (such as MySpace) as they weren’t as friendly and organized in my opinion.
In as far as the social networking aspect is concerned, I don’t see how anyone can ay Multiply is playing “catch up”. Multiply is not for the building of the largest network of people you do not even know. It is primarily for reconnecting with people you DO know and sharing your life with them through your entries.
The privacy settings of Multiply is one of the main features that make me choose their service over others. I can CHOOSE who will see selected content (everyone, network, contacts, individuals, advanced) and that is something no other online service has provided so far.
I loved Multiply so much that back in the day, I was one of the people who willingly paid for my service, even though it could be used for free.
I love Multiply. I wish they’d hire me, hehehe.

I’ve been using Multiply since 2004. I was already a member of a number of (then-new) sites, including MySpace and Friendster, but none of them provided what I was looking for: a way to easily keep in touch with the people I know, without being pestered by people I don’t. I did a lot of research, and Multiply was the closest to what I was looking for; three years later, it’s used regularly by most of my extended family.
I still check out new SN sites and changes to old ones, and Multiply is still the best for managing my real-world social network. Far from needing to play catch-up, it blew past other sites with its concept and execution from its founding, and I still haven’t found a site to match it.

Multiply rocks, I could not ask for more features but they keep on coming with great new features which simply rocks.
I believe that Multiply is popular because of what awesome features and flexibility it has to offer.
What I see is the other way around, I think it’s the other social networking sites who are catching up with Multiply
For example Friendster, they’re starting to AJAXified some of their modules also

Multiply is one of the best sites I’ve ever been on in over a decade of internet use. As was mentioned in other comments, the site has great functionality, a great staff that addresses problems quickly, and a great community that remains peaceful and fun, unlike ..say, Stumbleupon, which seems to be the mental institution of the internet.
There’s plenty to do, listen to, see, and comment on. You can keep your network private or expand it as you wish.
The community consists of people from all over the globe…not just Indonesia, or far eastern countries, as this article suggests. I think the fact that it IS the web’s little secret makes it all the better.
The site offers many CSS codes to make your site look good. You have unlimited storage space for photos, movies and music. Everything is editable.
I like it a lot and intend to stay there and have it be my home base for internet fun and socializing.

I am new to Multiply and I think it’s a great site for social networking. It is very organised and sharing of video clips, photos, music is just awesome. I would recommend all internet users of any age to join Multiply.

I’ve been using Multiply since April 2007 after traveling to Michigan from Floriday to attend my mom’s 100th birthday celebation, where I re-met a couple of hundred people I haven’t seen in years. Fortunately, a niece and nephew of mine who live in California suggested that everyone with an ISP join Multiply so that we could all keep in touch, and what a sea change it has been for our family! I’ve seen weddings I couldn’t attend, new baby pix, the changing colors in Michigan. A brother who just got his first computer and his first digital camera has been really going to town! I love it! Rock on, Multiply!

I think those (not quite in the know) need to catch up on their facts. Multiply has had steady growth since start up, and is the place that everyone is flocking to in DROVES from those other social networking sites because of their duly earned, bad reputations. If you want a site with customer support that actually works and works quickly, that the Developers actually listen to you, gives YOU feedback, AND gives you much more than you are looking for, Multiply.com is the one you want. Those that have been there and those that are arriving there en masse’ from Y360, know a quality product when the see it.
Regardless of the age group, (teens, young adults, adults, and middle age, and even older alike) will find some of everything catered specifically for them. A site that is growing, and one they can grow with too.

FYI: More than half of the commenters here have the same IP address. Makes you wonder…
November 7th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
I do not have the same Computer IP as anyone posting here. lol So if that’s what you are seeing, the problem is on this site’s end, not ours. (No surprise here) lol
(Sorry, Meg.. luv ya but don’t think we should move in together and share ip addresses. Your hubby nor mine would probably appreciate that.) Same goes for the rest of you up there. ^^^^^

TechCrunch should take a 5 minute lunch break
at Multiply, have a look at it’s over 7 million members,
and growing by the day program and developments!
It is without a doubt one of the best brightest
fasting growing and upcoming social networks
in the market, and with backers adding millions
of dollars, it’s obviously more than just a pipe dream!
I’ve used so many of the other “wanna be” social network sites only to find each one lacking greatly in features
and or functionality, or just too damn “kiddie landish”
for my tastes. Multiply filled a gap in the social networking world where Yahoo 360 just up and died and left
millions hanging. Multiply has it all and then some
with the latest upgrades to now include video and voice blogging… It’s going to eat up and spit out all the other social networking sites in a very short time…
It’s best to always actually check something out before
you try to trash it, a rule I follow rather than
ignore… Have a look Mr. TechCrunch, sign up and see
if maybe you don’t want to rewrite your review…
If it had been me making that error in judgment
I know I surly would do so…
Peace Out and Happy Holidays to you all!
