Oddbark — It’s like craig’s list, but with no users
Too little, too late, Web 2.0, Will never make money, Service August 26th, 2007
Oddbark is like craig’s list, with some added bells and whistles. For one, it doesn’t look like the web circa 1937. But more importantly, you can phone in ads. And get txt messages when postings expire.
But that ain’t enough to convince people to move from trusty CL, unfortunately. In New York City, there were only two items for sale on the entire site. Needless to say, if I’m looking to buy or sell, this ain’t gonna be where I look. Sucky. ‘Cause the site’s actually better than Craig’s.

Sucky? That’s a harsh thing to say about a startup. I agree that Oddbark.com is a nice site, actually a whole lot better than Craigslist, but it does need more users. Craigslist has become stale. So I would’nt dismiss Oddbark. It’s just too early to do that. I think that when people realize how many different things the site offers, they will eventually flock there. I know I will.

It’s all in good fun…the truth is that I’m all for these startups…

well, the trick for the startups is to make the site still useful while you’re building that user base….for instance, allurstuff lets you search both itself AND craigslist (and puts them all on the same google map). plus it lets you post to both sites simultaneously…
but yeah. go startups.

Agree. The ideas and execution on many of these sites is quite good. But it’s just difficult to get a critical mass of users. The idea of content aggregation, if it’s done well, solves this key problem.

At least something new concerning the list. More animation and more colour is most welcomed.
