MadKast helps you send links because emailing them is just too darn hard…
I just don't get it, Web 2.0, Service August 17th, 2007
TechStars demo days yielded some decent ideas. I’m not sure that MadKast is one of them (though I heard they were the first to launch). Here’s why I don’t see much of a use…it ain’t all that hard to send a link via email. It would require high penetration for it to become the standard way to share links/blog posts via this widget. But if the existing solution (email) isn’t very broken, I’m not sure what kind of penetration to expect. Furthermore, I don’t see a clear business model.
Maybe I just don’t get it. It wouldn’t be the first time. I tried to put it on this blog, but I don’t think it was working properly.

While I respect your point that it is easy to e-mail links to friends, I think that you are over-looking some of the powerful features that make madKast such a powerful tool for both publishers and bloggers.
MadKast helps the blogger by:
-Reducing Blog Clutter and Introducing Standardization – All of the blogger’s “email this”, “add this”, “Digg this”, “Facebook this” etc. are all consolidated into a single standard widget, the madKast share widget. This dramatically reduces the clutter on blog sites.
-Deep Analytics – Bloggers will be able to know who is sharing what, and what other sites their readers are visiting. (We’re tracking these, and will be available to the blogger soon.)
-Revenue Sharing – Bloggers will be able to opt into revenue sharing, where targeted ads will be included on the shared blog posts via MMS, email, and IM.
MadKast helps the blog reader by:
-Saving contacts across multiple blog sites - Friends’ contact information only has to be entered once; thereafter, this information is shared across all the blogs you visit (that have madKast installed)
-Email / MMS / social bookmarking sharing – We’ve consolidated all of the usual methods of sharing into one service. In addition, we can share using MMS, meaning we can send a full blog post to someone’s phone (the first sharing service to do so).

Fair enough…I appreciate the responses and agree that this could provide value if it takes off.
The reducing the blog clutter could be a way to gain additional penetration of MadKast. There are existing solutions for reducing clutter, prodiving analytics, etc. already though, as I’m sure you know.
