Keyfiler.com offers spreadsheet service for $100.00 a year
Service May 17th, 2007Keyfiler.com is a web service that promises to solve the problem of too many serial/CD-keys. If you purchase so much software that you can’t even keep track of how much, then this service is aimed at you. Basically you sign up with them and pay an annual fee, and they will host all your product keys so that you can access them from anywhere.
Why can’t we just open a spreadsheet and record all our info in there? To hell with that, why not a *.txt file!? Keyfiler really makes me mad. They promise to offer features that you won’t find in spreadsheet software, which sounds highly unlikely. If you want access to your keys from anywhere, there are plenty of FREE online spreadsheet startups which will happily host it for you like Google Docs, EditGrid, and Num Sum.
After playing around with the free version a little longer, I found out that they offer no real features at all. You just click “NEW LICENSE”, fill in a bunch of useless info (version, notes) and bam: you have a list; just a list. No fancy drag and drop ajax, nor any sorting.

First, I’m the developer behind Keyfiler, so I may be slightly bias’d.
It’s interesting to see the app featured on a site called “Sucky Startups” as we’re not a startup. This is just a tool we threw together about three years ago to solve a problem we had internally.
Second, yes, there is nothing stopping you from storing all of your serials in a spreadsheet. We offer a few features for folks who managed multiple machines, and multiple licenses, but it’s really just a bare bones, simple piece of kit aimed at storing information in a secure, simple manner. I’m not sure why the product would need drag and drop.
Thanks for checking it out though. I’m sorry it’s not what you were looking for.
